Donor Spotlight: Charles' Commitment to Georgia's Natural Legacy

For Charles, a love of the outdoors started early. Growing up on a family farm in southeast Georgia, he developed an appreciation for nature that has stayed with him throughout his life. After a 45-year career practicing law, he remains passionate about Georgia’s landscapes.

His connection to the Georgia Conservancy was sparked by the advocacy of former Georgia Lieutenant Governor and past Georgia Conservancy President Pierre Howard, and he sees the organization as “the state’s best advocate for preserving Georgia’s great spaces.” Whether through conservation efforts or guided trips to explore protected lands, he is proud to support this mission.

Charles views giving back as a responsibility. “If we are to improve our communities, while government has a role, we as citizens must also be community builders,” he shares.

That commitment led him to make a charitable gift through his IRA. “At age 73, those with qualified retirement accounts must take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), which count as taxable income. By donating part of the RMD directly to a nonprofit, the funds stay tax-free while supporting a worthy cause.”

Through his generosity, Charles is ensuring that Georgia’s natural beauty is protected for generations. If you have an IRA and would like to make a tax-free charitable distribution, we’d love to help you explore how your gift can make a lasting impact.
