HEALTHY NATURAL SYSTEMS in 2021

Protecting and restoring Georgia’s natural systems for a sustainable future.

2021 LEgislative Session

Principled advocacy relies upon sound data and inclusive collaboration. With this in mind, the Georgia Conservancy's Advocacy team was under the Gold Dome during the 2021 Legislative Session working with partners to advocate for the protection of Georgia's land, water, and communities through a number of important measures.

Georgia Now & FOrever

Led by the Georgia Conservancy, Georgia Now and Forever seeks to demonstrate trends in our land cover change over time across different jurisdictions and scales with an aim to provide background education and policy-based tools that local leaders can use to promote sustainability and use land efficiently in their community.

 

Okefenokee Protection

In 2021, the Georgia Conservancy continued our staunch opposition to mining near the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge through our partnership with the Okefenokee Protections Alliance.

Georgia Sentinel Landscapes

The Georgia Conservancy is a lead partner with Georgia Sentinel Landscape, whose mission is to protect vital habitat through the conservation of working and natural lands in South Georgia.

Ocmulgee National Park & Preserve

With partners in the Ocmulgee National Park & Preserve Initiative, the Georgia Conservancy is leading efforts to establish a National Park in along Middle Georgia’s Ocmulgee River.

 

THRIViNG COMMUNITIES in 2021

Positioning Georgia’s communities to be more resilient to ecological, demographic, and economic stresses.

NPU-G Atlanta MASTER PLAN

In 2021, the Georgia Conservancy completed the community-focused master plan update for Atlanta’s Neighborhood Planning Unit-G, home to the environmentally-sensitive Proctor Creek.

BARTOW COUNTY HOUSING STUDY

The Georgia Conservancy joined with several partners to critically analyze the county’s current housing landscape with a focus on workforce housing and where it can be better utilized.

QUITMAN ASSET MAPPING

The Georgia Conservancy explored Quitman’s history, planning efforts, cultural/socioeconomic contexts, and existing assets to provide a roadmap for preservation and revitalization.

 

JaCKSON COUNTY HOUSING PLAN

The Georgia Conservancy collaborated to research demographic trends and development patterns and to offer a sustainable roadmap for the future of housing in Jackon County.

DOUGLASVILLE HOUSING STUDY

In 2021, we supported a collaborative in-depth report that focused on housing challenges, issues, and opportunities in Douglasville, a rapidly-growing community in Douglas County.

GEORGIA HOUSING WORKSHOP

We hosted the Georgia Housing Workshop, bringing together attendees from public, private, and non-profit sectors around the issues of housing and economic development.

 

ENGAGED GEORGIANS in 2021

Creating stewards and fostering appreciation by connecting all Georgians to our natural resources.

Stewardship Trips

After a pandemic-induced hiatus, our Stewardship Trips program returned to leading adventure-filled educational outings in 2021, sharing our natural resources with more than 230 trip participants.

Women’s Hiking Group

During the first-year of our partnership with Refugee Women’s Network, we helped to introduce 30 women representing 15 countries to Georgia’s great outdoors through a series of eight hikes!

Virtual Engagement

Our online engagement continued into 2021 with a number of Facebook Live discussions focused on issues important to Georgia’s natural resources and communities.
