Monica Thornton

Georgia Conservancy Senior Vice President 

Monica is a results-driven leader amongst Atlanta’s competitive fundraising and marketing professionals, offering more than 20 years of a successful business development, brand management, public relations, and community engagement track-record. She also has substantial experience in strategic planning, coaching, public speaking and staff management.

Monica currently serves as the Vice President at Georgia Conservancy, a non-profit whose mission is to protect Georgia's natural resources for present and future generations by advocating sound environmental policies, advancing sustainable growth practices and facilitating common-ground solutions to environmental challenges. Prior to joining Georgia Conservancy, Monica served as the Executive Director of Women In Technology (WIT) and as SVP/Chief Marketing and Development Officer at Piedmont Park Conservancy. She has also held leadership positions at United Way of Metro Atlanta, Fox 5 Atlanta, CBS Atlanta, WSB-TV and Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Monica holds a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Georgia State University in TV/Film and an Associate's degree in Marketing. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Public Relations Society of America, Association for Fundraising Professionals, National Association for Professional Women and Women in Film.

Nominated for the prestigious Turcknett Character Leadership award, Monica is very involved in the community and serves on several boards. She is also often invited to speak and volunteers regularly as on-air talent for GPB during local and national PBS telethons. She is 2018 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Environmental leaders and has several writing projects underway in the children’s and adult fiction genres.
