How Our Land Conservation Program Works
The process of permanently protecting land can be complicated, but our program can guide landowners every step of the way.
Here's how our program works:
- Step 1: We work with landowners to assess what type of land they have and whether they may be eligible to take part in state and federal land conservation programs that offer cash payments in exchange for an agreement not to develop land.
- Step 2: If we determine the land may be eligible for a particular program, we will arrange a meeting with the appropriate state or federal agencies to start the application process.
- Step 3: We guide the landowner through the application process and put them in touch with conservation specialists such as appraisers, accountants and attorneys. We’ll even help fill out the forms.
- Step 4: We’ll help the landowner close the deal in a timely manner. We have gone through the process ourselves, so we are able to offer expert advice on how to expedite the process.
We do not buy or hold land, but we work with the great land conservation organizations and land trusts in Georgia, including the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and refer landowners to the agency that fits their needs.
