A Georgia where people and the environment thrive

Generation Green Mission

2010 Mission: A program of the Georgia Conservancy, Generation Green creates an exciting and inclusive opportunity for the next generation of environmental leaders to protect and enjoy Georgia's environment through educational, social and service events.

History: Generation Green is a group of Georgia Conservancy members and perspective members interested in service projects, adventure trips and social networking activities in and around metro Atlanta. Generation Green is led by a volunteer board of men and women poised to become the next generation of environmental and business leaders in Atlanta and beyond.

Founded in 1993 by Betsy Verner and Louise Tanner Gracey, the Green Peaches (the original name of Generation Green) was created to help sustain the Georgia Conservancy, provide members with adventure and social opportunities and cultivate the blossoming field of young environmentalists with an opportunity for executive leadership.

Throughout the years, Generation Green has supported the Georgia Conservancy by hosting unique membership trips, exciting social events and meaningful lectures. Generation Green board members use their experience as board members to develop dynamic environmental and business leadership skills.

Read what previous Generation Green board members have said about their time on the board:

"Generation Green offered me a bridge from my interest in exploring the Georgia outdoors to volunteerism and professional connections that continues to enhance my life and my career as a land use and zoning attorney."

-R. Kyle Williams, Weissman, Nowack, Curry & Wilco, P.C.

“My time as a volunteer board member for Generation Green was a significant factor in shaping my life. The interaction with interesting members and speakers helped me better form my conservation interests; participating in the Georgia Conservancy's strategic planning process and other organization-wide activities gave me credibility in creating a career in conservation; and best of all, it was through Generation Green that I met my wife!”

-David K. Ray, Nature Conservancy, Southern Blue Ridge Project Director

“Through my membership with Generation Green, I constantly learned new ways to protect the environment; I discovered the advantages of smart growth; and I took an active role in Georgia's future, all while networking with many highly influential people. Serving as president of Generation Green was extremely rewarding and made a positive impact on my career and social life.”

- Brent Simmons, Allstate, Regional Sales Manager
