The Georgia Conservancy has a long history of advocating for the preservation of Georgia's natural resources, at the state and federal legislative level. Led by President Pierre Howard, who served two terms as Georgia's Lieutenant Governor, and Vice President of Advocacy Will Wingate, the Georgia Conservancy has one of the best environmental advocacy teams in the state.
2010 Legislative priorities:
The 2010 Georgia General Assembly will be crafting and possibly passing into law important policies affecting transportation, our state's water resources, and funding for our parks. Our common sense policy solutions that protect our air, water and natural areas include:
- Water conservation, such as appliance retrofits, daytime watering restrictions, submetering for multi-family residences, and fixing leaky pipes
- Ease traffic congestion with new transit solutions, funded equitably by region
- Regulate "interbasin transfers"
- Protect funding to maintain our state parks
- Improved and accurate notification of changes to the state's flood plain maps
- Funding for state monitoring of water quality
