In 2002, as a response to the strain on water resources brought on by Georgia's rapid rate of growth, the Georgia Conservancy teamed up with other environmental partners through the Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) to ensure Georgia's water is managed fairly for all citizens and protected for future generations. Thanks in large part to GWC's advocacy in 2004, the legislature passed a bill mandating the creation of a statewide water plan. With the adoption of the plan, the work continues with the Georgia Conservancy leading GWC's work to implement the statewide water plan, while also participating in new initiatives to promote water conservation and protection. A statewide plan is the only way to ensure that citizens, local governments, agriculture, and industry have adequate water to meet their future needs while also ensuring protection of Georgia's water resources. | | |
