The Coastal Georgia Land Conservation Initiative is a partnership among the Georgia Conservancy, Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) to preserve critical coastal lands and promote sustainable growth and development. This three-year initiative will focus on collaboration with coastal land conservation organizations; local governments; state, regional and federal agencies; the development community; and residents of the 11-county coastal region.
The three initiative partners will lead efforts to: | - develop a comprehensive natural resources inventory of the coastal region and conduct field surveys to determine areas most critical to protect and restore, as well as potential wildlife and greenspace corridors.
- develop a decision support system to assist in identifying priority conservation areas and developing land use plans that minimize conflicts between the built and natural environments.
- establish a regional land conservation network to coordinate activities by land conservation groups, the Georgia Land Conservation Council, local governments and others; leverage resources; and target conservation efforts to critical areas.
- promote efficient, protective growth patterns and development practices for lands determined to be most suitable for development.
- organize a grassroots network to recruit and train local citizens to actively monitor local land use activities, particularly those affecting identified critical areas.

| | Once fully implemented, the Coastal Georgia Land Conservation Initiative will promote: | - a healthy, resilient and diverse coastal ecosystem complex that supports viable populations of native animals and plants;
- an economy that offers diverse options, including healthy, environmentally sustainable businesses;
- compact patterns of growth that are located away from environmentally unsuitable areas; are sited, designed and constructed to respect, restore and maintain ecosystem functions; and engender a respect by the people who live there for the land and water around them;
- a population closely connected to our coastal lands, islands and waters through heightened awareness and appreciation.
