The Georgia Conservancy is committed to developing awareness and concern for Georgia’s natural resources. Through our environmental education program, Teaching Conservation, we strive to empower Georgians with the knowledge and skills to value and safeguard Georgia’s natural environment for generations to come.
- Educator Workshops – Through specially developed curricula, “Georgia's Native Seasons” and “Georgia's Native Waters,” these state-approved workshops train teachers as well as non-formal educators like scout leaders, nature centers teachers and summer camp counselors about Georgia’s natural environment. Visit our events calendar to see when the next Educator Workshop is scheduled.
- Youth Environmental Symposium – “YES,” an annual, statewide competition, encourages middle and high school classes or clubs to participate in student-led projects addressing environmental challenges in their own communities. For more information on this year's YES and instructions for entering your school's project, download the teacher's packet.
- Teaching Conservation Newsletter – A semiannual newsletter that serves as an additional resource for educators, including tips on teaching about the environment, both in and out of the classroom.
- Home Sweet Home Habitat Art Contest – This annual, statewide contest for students in third, fourth and fifth grades highlights a specific Georgia habitat each year. Participants submit personal artwork depicting habitats such as bogs or rock outcrops for judging.Download the 2010 "Red Hills" contest information here.
