Gen Green Board Member Studies Dawson Forest Reservoir
Generation Green prides itself on having the best and brightest of Atlanta's young environmentalists as its members. Current Communications board member Daniel Jessee is no exception. While a student at the University of Denver, Jessee completed a capstone project that studied the economic benefits of outdoor recreation to Dawson County as well as the impact the proposed Dawson Forest Reservoir would have on outdoor recreation.
Here is the abstract:
North Georgia’s population growth is at odds with the limits of its resources. A dam and 2,000-acre reservoir has been proposed in the Atlanta-owned Dawson Forest to provide an additional supply of drinking water to metro Atlanta in times of drought. The development of this land would have an impact on recreational activities at the Dawson Forest site. There is evidence that these activities provide an economic boon to surrounding economies that may be displaced by the building of a reservoir in the Forest. This project examines current economic modeling techniques as they relate to outdoor recreation and makes recommendations on the most appropriate model for identifying the economic benefits of preserving the Dawson Forest.

Paddling the Chattooga
On August 28, several Generation Green members met up for a day of whitewater paddling on one of the South’s most rugged and beautiful waterways – the Chattooga River. The 9-mile trip took participants on Section 3, which contains Class II and III rapids along with dense forest and large river boulders.
Our group had a blast and looks forward to the next Generation Green adventure trip.
