Lost Trail is an iconic Cumberland Trail that is truly not one to miss! Gently rolling up and down through palmettos and maritime forest, the beauty of this trail is captivating which definitely makes it one of my all-time favorite trails! Lost Trail can be divided up into two parts. The entrance of Lost begins on the Main Road heading east. Passing by the entrances of Oyster pond and then Tar Kiln, 0.6 miles in it spurs into two directions. The left veers to Roller Coaster and the right begins the second section of Lost. This section begins with blossoming wildflowers when in season and tall grass amidst the live oak and palmettos. Soon, the trail transitions into a corridor framed with palmettos that gently rolls up and down traveling parallel to the dunes. Nesting birds can be heard, and swampy pools of water frame the eastern side of the trail. Look out, maybe you’ll even see a group of feral hogs scurrying around! The south end of Lost connects into Duck House Trail. From here, you can choose to head east half a mile towards the beach or loop around back to the main road by heading West.
