Current Issues Georgia Conservancy Shoots the 'Hooch Under the Blue Moon
back

For over twenty years, the Georgia Conservancy has rafted under a full moon down the Chattahoochee. As the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area is closed at night, this is a very special experience for Georgia Conservancy members. This year we rafted under the "Blue Moon" - the second full moon of a month! The weather was warm, and the river was cold and muddy from all the rain. Not long after the put in at Powers Island, a layer of mist engulfed our rafts. Breaks in the often-thick fog afforded spectacular views of Blue Herons, Egrets, Swallows, Wood Ducks and Canadian Geese. Some rafters even saw a huge river otter! It was an incredible natural experience in which you soon forgot that you were inside the perimeter
