Georgia currently has 67 plant and
animal species that are listed as federally endangered and threatened.
Georgia's natural areas support some
of the world's most diverse populations of plant and animal species. With
that comes the responsibility to be good stewards of our natural areas so
we, and future generations can enjoy them. In 2002, the Georgia Conservancy
called for a statewide land conservation program. In 2006, the general assembly
passed, and Governor Perdue signed this legislation. We look forward to
supporting the implementation of this innovative plan with our conservation
partners. Effective environmental advocacy and education by Georgia Conservancy
will continue to play a vital role in the conservation of our state's natural
areas.
